The project, 2,4-D Initiative, has trained the number of 1,400 farmers in 27 training programs held in the 

first half of year 2015 in seven Brazilian states. The project is an initiative by a group formed by the 

companies Adama, Atanor, Dow AgroSciences and Nufarm to generate technical information about 

the correct and safe use of agrochemicals.

 
With the theme "Weed resistance management and 2,4-D", the training programs aim to provide 

information about the herbicide and application techniques which could help rural producers to 

assure higher yields on crops such as soybeans, sugarcane, corn, coffee, wheat, oat, rye, rice, 

and formed pasture.

According to the Professor of the University of Passo Fundo and partner at the 2,4-D Initiative, 

Mauro Rizzardi, weeds, if not controlled correctly, can cause losses from 5% to 10%. "One 

horseweed plant per square meter, for instance, reduces up to 12% the productivity," he says.

 
Herbicide 2,4-D is recommended for broad leaf invasive plants, mostly the difficult to control such 

as horseweed. "With the correct usage, agrochemicals are tools that benefit all the productive chain. 

Through the 2,4-D initiative,we want to disseminate the concept of good agricultural practices, 

taking efficiency and security to the field," explains the coordinator of the 2,4-D Initiative,

Ana Cristina Pinheiro.

 
Participating of a course at Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul, rural producer Mauro Calheiros spoke 

on the importance of this action. "It has been 30 years since we use 2,4-D and yet there was some 

doubts about the application. The professor [Rumbem Silvério of the State University of Maringá] 

was excellent and clarified everything on the use of the product," says Mauro.

 
The training program of the 2,4-D will have, over 60 courses in 2015 through partnerships with

 entities such as University of Passo Fundo, State University of Maringá, State University of Northern 

Paraná and Embrapa Soja. The goal is to reach 65 cities in the five macro-regions of Brazil.
